Empowering Neurodivergent Minds Through Creative Expression

Art therapy has long been used as a means of communication and creative expression across cultures and time. It is used to express emotions, empower personal growth, build resilience, develop rituals, and connect with the community.

At Converse Therapy, we believe in the transformative and healing power of art, especially when words fall short. Our art therapy sessions are designed to support and empower neurotypical and neurodivergent children, teenagers, and adults near South Yarra. These sessions provide a safe, non-judgemental space for individuals to express their thoughts and feelings and celebrate their authentic selves.

What is Art Therapy?

Art therapy is a neuro-affirming form of care that combines the creative process with psychotherapeutic principles. It offers a supportive environment for individuals to explore and develop new ways to express their thoughts, emotions, and experiences both verbally and nonverbally. When words aren't enough to capture the depth or complexity of feelings and experiences, art provides an alternative outlet. Engaging in creative processes helps individuals uncover and express thoughts and feelings that may be difficult to articulate verbally.

Art therapy focuses on the process of creation rather than the final product. It uses multimodal activities such as drama, music, clay, sand, science, and craft to support self-exploration and reveal insights about the individual. Our telehealth sessions allow our art therapists to facilitate therapy in an environment that is familiar and safe for participants, providing non-invasive support with familiar tools.
